Eye hollows & Dark Circles

Correction of under eye hollows and dark circles

Hollowness and darkness under the eyes can be a separate or concurrent problem with puffy under eye bags. The unevenness of the area or “tear trough” can become shadowy, causing “dark circles” under the eyes. Having both conditions give the appearance of always looking tired, regardless of how much sleep one gets or how many under eyes serums you use. Dermal fillers can improve volume loss under your eyes and some cases can be used to treat puffy bags under the eyes.

What causes dark circles under the eyes?

Hollow under-eyes, in the tear trough area occurs is the inner portion of the lower eyelid depression.

  • As we age, fatty tissue under the lower eyelid and upper cheek area decreases. The skin and muscles of the lower lid lose elasticity, no longer remaining tightly secured. The tear trough becomes puffy and bulges away from the face. When the tissue under the eye pushes outward, “bags” begin to develop.
  • Hereditary factors can contribute to early onset of dark circles under the eyes in very young people.
  • In some ethnicities, dark circles are caused by darker pigment in your skin. The only effective solution for under eyes pigmentation is by applying a concealer.

How to remove dark circles under the eyes

Tear through rejuvenation or correction with dermal fillers is popular with both men and women who want to look more rested, youthful and refreshed. This is the most effective option to remove dark circles under the eyes. Fillers smooth out the under eye area and eliminate the dark circles and unflattering shadows that make us appear tired and older.  When properly injected in the hollow tear trough, fillers give a natural-looking result without the swelling. Placement of the filler is also important. When placed too superficially under the eyes, fillers can cause a bluish swelling or Tyndall effect.  Fillers must therefore be injected under the muscle layer in this area.

At Aesthetique Skin & Body, we use the latest, advanced, safe and non-invasive methods for eliminating hollow eye syndrome and bags under the eyes. Filler is injected via a cannula, which is then evened out in the plane beneath the eye, filling in the depression between the cheek and the eyelid. This eliminates the shadow that creates the darkness and improves the appearance of protruding lids. In cases we observe where the cheeks are deflated, we fill the cheeks with a more supportive filler to enhance the results. Over time, the injected filler stimulates the body’s natural collagen production in the areas where it is injected. The results last one year or more and patients typically return with depressions much shallower than when they started.  Injecting in the tear trough requires great precision and skill. Our team understands the techniques and complications and are well practiced in camouflaging very subtle fat or volume loss in what is a very dynamic area of your face.  We ask our clients to do their research, without focusing on price. We don’t recommend anyone who is not highly experienced to inject under your eyes.
